Overview
Our client is a multi-disciplinary engineering and consultancy firm offering turnkey life-cycle services for infrastructure projects in Africa. The company provides infrastructure solutions to mainly government departments, water boards, municipalities, and industrial companies, water, energy, infrastructure projects.
Purpose of Role
We are seeking a highly intelligent, analytical, and dynamic Financial Accountant who combines technical expertise with sharp business acumen. The Financial Accountant will manage, monitor, and report on all financial operations within the company. This role is vital in ensuring that all financial transactions are executed accurately, comply with legal requirements, and align with business values of excellence, agility, leadership, and customer focus.
Responsibilities
- Assist the business unit and project managers in meeting agreed objectives, through the provision of meaningful management information and the maintenance of reporting standards, under the guidance of the Financial Manager.
- Relationship management with our customers and suppliers.
- Produce management accounts with analysis and actionable insights.
- Ability to derive business operating expenditure savings for the business.
- Prepare monthly management accounts to identify causes of material variances to expected results.
- Analyse general ledger accounts where this is required to provide relevant and meaningful information to the Executive Team.
- Apply budgeting and planning processes for business units and projects.
- Compile detailed business unit and project budgets and assist in the discussion and review with relevant Head of Department.
- Attend monthly meetings of Finance, reporting on relevant matters upon request by the FM; ensure that the policy and procedures manuals are adhered to by staff members.
- Negotiate higher returns on investments with financial institutions.
- Oversee taxation (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax) and ensure compliance.
- Payroll administration.
- Prepare supporting documentation for all payments and transfers, e.g., requisition forms, electronic printouts, etc.
- Prepare for internal and external audits with meticulous attention to detail.
- Maintain and reconcile all ledgers, creditors, debtors, and fixed asset registers.
- Ensure the proper control and recording of all financial information in terms of the financial policy and procedures.
- Prepare and reconcile all books and accounts in accordance with IFRS.
- Maintain an efficient and proper filing system for all financial documents, e.g., contracts, agreements, statements, invoices, etc.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or Accounting — Essential.Strong understanding of IFRS, GAAP, VAT, PAYE, and financial regulations.Expertise in Xero, Sage, Simple Pay & Pastel Accounting.Minimum of 4 years accounting experience.Experience in infrastructure, engineering, or project-based industries preferred.#J-18808-Ljbffr
