Purpose of position :
Assisting the compliance function with assessing and monitoring the company’s operational departments to ensure it is conducting its business in compliance with applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the financial services industryResponsibilities :
Compliance monitoring and reporting
Assisting with the monitoring of FAIS compliance by all key individuals and representatives and ensuring that relevant changes are communicated to the FSCADeveloping, maintaining, and reviewing policies and procedures for the general operation of the company’s standards of conductCompiling of meaningful monitoring reports and ensuring the timeous escalation of compliance risks and incidentsPro-actively identifying existing and potential control deficiencies and exposures from ongoing monitoring reviewsEnsuring that all monitoring of routine procedures address the changing needs of the businessProviding general guidance on how to avoid and mitigate potential compliance risks and implementing action plansSubmission of regulatory returns and information requests to regulatory bodies as and when requiredCompliance awareness
Maintaining expert knowledge on relevant legislative amendments, industry best practices and provision of proactive advice and solutions to relevant stakeholdersConducting risk and compliance management awareness programmes within the companyPromoting a culture that emphasises and demonstrates the importance of internal controls and risk by pointing out the implications of non-complianceGeneral
Developing, leading and / or participating in staff compliance trainingCompiling a compliance report for the risk and compliance committee based on information obtained, and submit same to the Compliance Manager and / or the Head of Compliance for review and finalisationDealing with regulatory enquiries and liaising with regulatory bodies as and when requiredRequirements :
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a compliance related role with in-depth knowledge of the non-life insurance industry, control environment and applicable legislation (i.e., Insurance Act, Short-term Insurance Act, FAIS Act, POPIA, COFI Bill)A relevant legal / compliance qualificationRelevant fit and proper requirements must be in respect of honesty, integrity and competenceRE1RE5 (advantageous)Skills and Attributes :
Ability to identify compliance risks and make recommendationsAttention to detail and meticulous accuracy is essentialAbility to professionally communicate with various levels of staff and managementWillingness to work under supervision (if not already licensed / registered as a Compliance Officer with the FSCA)Law / Legal jobs
