Role Purpose

The purpose of the role is to lead a regional team of experienced insurance professionals to execute the short-term insurance strategy of the MMH Group and drive sales in line with the company\'s strategic objectives. This includes achieving product sales targets through an advice-led, face-to-face tied agency sales force, ensuring an excellent, consistent customer experience across all products at the lowest possible acquisition cost. The role involves developing the sales function to its optimal size to ensure regional coverage, deploying resources effectively, opening and developing quality sources, running sales campaigns aligned with strategic objectives, overseeing people, budgeting, and optimizing systems and processes.

Responsibilities and work outputs

Strategic :

  • Design, implement, and control the regional sales growth plan in line with channel objectives and business goals.
  • Set and implement operational strategy in collaboration with the Head of BDC / Tied agency sales.
  • Monitor and achieve strategic objectives and targets.
  • Track key performance areas of Sales functions.
  • Develop and execute best operating practices.
  • Increase sales revenue by surpassing targets and quotas, identifying new opportunities, and expanding into new markets.
  • Use management information to manage sales operations, identify opportunities, risks, trends and potential cost savings.
  • Identify, manage, and cultivate new business opportunities to expand the market and enhance people, processes, and systems.
  • Ensure effective risk management and governance of the sales process.
  • Manage the team\'s activity and productivity.
  • Create and manage a lead funnel with sales managers.
  • Recruit and develop BDCs / tied agents and Sales Managers.
  • Provide regular feedback and coaching on a one-on-one and group basis.
  • Mobilize and motivate BDC / Tied agents and sales managers; effectively lead the team.
  • Continuously improve sales processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct performance excellence reviews and document results.
  • Recruitment in line with EE focus and prompt replacement of resigned staff.
  • Encourage and support training (informal and formal).
  • Identify development opportunities and coaching needs for staff.

  • Develop and execute sustainable business plans.
  • Set annual, quarterly, and monthly sales goals for each BDC / SM.
  • Grow sales in alignment with strategic objectives; foster team spirit and competitive recognition.
  • Ensure achievement of sales targets.

  • Support continuous learning and knowledge distribution programs.
  • Integrate new content and product changes into the region; leverage technology, knowledge, and marketing in the value chain.
  • Encourage innovative ideas and feedback from BDC / SM to improve processes and systems.
  • Take calculated risks to achieve stretch performance goals.
  • Analyze sales data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure team members complete all required compliance exams and attestations within specified timeframes.
  • Connection :

  • Drive consistent marketing activities to increase leads; ensure clear and effective communication.
  • Foster engagement that supports an advice-led service delivery model.
  • Promote governance, collaboration, and diversity; maintain client and stakeholder relationships to sustain competitive edge.

  • Cultivate collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement; develop talent within the organization.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate threats to business objectives and develop contingency plans as needed.

  • Experience and Qualifications

    Qualifications :

  • Class of Business training will be to your advantage.
  • 18 CPD (Continuous Professional Development) points.
  • NQF 7 Level : Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma relevant to industry.
  • Leadership or Management studies / qualification advantageous.
  • Experience :

  • Financial sector experience (Banking, Insurance, Investments).
  • 5–7 years\' experience managing managers who manage teams (essential).
  • 7–10 years\' experience in a Sales environment (essential).
  • Business process experience : new business, underwriting, claims.
  • Must have experience in both personal and commercial lines.
  • Knowledge :

  • Proficient in the insurance industry; familiar with insurance products, processes, and service offerings.
  • Strong business acumen, decision-making skills, and initiative.
  • Knowledge of advice processes and distribution models.
  • Financial acumen.

    The position is based in the Momentum Insure department at our Sandton office.
