Role Summary
The Product Specialist plays a pivotal role in driving the success of insurance and motor value-added products. This role bridges the gap between product development, operations, sales, and customer service, ensuring offerings are competitive, compliant, and aligned with market needs.
Responsibilities
- Manage costs / expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies.
- Deliver exceptional service that exceeds customer expectations through proactive, innovative and appropriate solutions.
- Cultivate and manage objective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including end-users, SME’s, project managers and senior staff members.
- Maintenance of expert knowledge on relevant legislative amendments, industry best practices and provision of proactive advice and solutions to relevant stakeholders.
- Translate strategies into actionable goals and execute relevant projects / initiatives aligned to strategic objectives with specific performance measures and control systems to track progress.
- Implement and maintain sound business processes that minimise risk and deliver quality requirements specifications.
- Resolution of findings that are as a result of internal or external audit.
- Initiate and manage product research, data mining and quantitative analysis to ensure sustainability and future competitive growth.
- Explore local and international markets for new products and trademarks in order to expand and strengthen the business' market position.
- Facilitate the conversion of knowledge and ideas into new or improved products, processes, and services.
- Manage own development to increase own competencies.
- Management of training material and policy wording amendments and enhancements.
- Understanding of organization processes and roles in order to align all product and project initiatives.
- Handling of Steerco and Product Forums as well as client meetings.
Qualification and Requirements
Grade 121–3 years’ working experience in Product Support, Development and Analysis.Skills & Attributes Required
Insurance Product Expertise – Understanding of various insurance and non-insurance products. Familiarity with underwriting principles, policy structures, and coverage options.Regulatory Compliance – Knowledge of industry regulations (e.g., FAIS, FICA). Ability to ensure products meet legal and ethical standards. Ability to evaluate and mitigate risks associated with insurance products.Analytical Thinking – Strong data analysis skills to assess product performance and market trends. Proficiency in tools like Excel and Microsoft Office.Client‑Facing Communication – Clear and persuasive communication with clients and stakeholders. Active listening and the ability to explain complex products simply.Customer Service Orientation – Building trust and long‑term relationships with clients. Handling enquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally.Market Research & Trend Analysis – Staying updated on consumer preferences and competitor offerings. Using insights to guide product development and positioning.Project Management – Coordinating product launches, updates, and cross‑functional initiatives. Managing timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations. Familiarity with Policy Administration Systems and Vendor platforms. Leveraging digital tools for product tracking and customer engagement.Detail‑Oriented – Precision in documentation, policy wording, and regulatory adherence. Ability to respond to changing market conditions and customer needs.
