Overview
Division for Student Affairs (DSAf) and the Centre for Student Life and Learning (CSLL) operate within the Division for Student Affairs, with a focus on student development through a broad spectrum of co-curricular activities. The CSLL collaborates with the Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD). The Centre aims to integrate students' learning and living environments and to offer transformative student experiences with engaged leadership development and support. The Leadership Programme Coordinator will expand and strengthen student leadership engagement across the University, aligning with Stellenbosch University’s vision to create a transformative student experience and to cultivate graduate attributes including engaged citizen, digital knower, dynamic professional, enquiring learner and caring individual. The role has both internal (campus and faculty student committees) and broader external responsibilities (global leadership engagements) and forms part of the FVZS Institute team within CSLL, reporting to the DD (Leadership) / Head : FVZS Institute.
Duties / Pligte
Implement a strategy, under the guidance of the DD (leadership) / Head : FVZS Institute, to increase student leadership engagement in support of student success.
Offer strategic input and insight into factors impacting student engagement and student success.Conceptualise, adapt and implement relevant ad hoc programming based on emerging needs related to current national student leadership trends.Project ManagementIdentify internal collaborations within DSAf and with broader SU and other higher education partners on key student leadership projects.
Coordinate content development sessions with the relevant DSAf and CSLL teams (Unit for Experiential Learning, Unit for Student Governance, Unit for Student Communities, Unit for Commuter Student Communities), including Short Courses, Masterclasses and tailored offerings informed by the CSLL leadership strategy.Draw up project plans to ensure timely delivery of multiple projects.Act as Project Lead for MatiesLead, the CSLL’s largest integrated 3-phase blended learning leadership programme for aspiring and newly elected leaders.Subject-Matter Experts (SMEs)Brief SMEs to conceptualise programme content (learning objectives, outcomes and competencies).
Finalise assessments with SMEs to confirm learning outcomes.Ensure SMEs are registered to access the learning management system as needed.Learner Management SystemCoordinate online content development for specific student leadership programmes in collaboration with national and international SMEs.
Liaise with the Learning Designer to load content and resources onto the online platform.Ensure online engagement takes place and monitor assessment processes and timelines in accordance with the Short Course Division.Moderate and facilitate live online sessions.Coordinate content development for the MatiesLead self-paced online learning sessions with the Learning Designer.Research And DataBe part of the core research team on the Multi-institutional Study of Leadership (MSL) with the Deputy Director (Leadership).
Conduct ongoing research on leadership themes with CSLL : Administrator and Researcher support.Design and manage feedback surveys and data management of student leadership output.Coordinate focus groups to conceptualise new programme offerings and provide feedback on current offerings.Analyze data to identify trends informing programme design.Report WritingProduce portfolio reports on progress of current projects.
With the Head : FVZS Institute, prepare funding proposals as required.Student Assistant SupervisionFacilitate peer-mentor training sessions as required.
Supervise student assistants.Finance ManagementIn consultation with the line manager, create an annual budget and, with the CSLL’s Finance Officer, manage expenses according to the allocated budget.
Transcript RecognitionWith the support of the CSLL Administrator, prepare all documentation for recognition processes.
Job Requirements / Pos Vereistes
NQF level 8 qualification, preferably within education or social sciences.At least three years' experience in curriculum design and development (portfolio of evidence), preferably within Student Affairs in higher education, including managing large-scale projects.Relevant experience in a similar role within the higher education sector.Experience supervising student assistants and delegating multiple tasks effectively.Knowledge of the South African Constitution and issues facing youth and student leaders in higher education.Experience in project planning and execution related to societal and citizenship issues (e.g., gender-based violence, multilingualism, gender, LGBQTAIP+, inequality, racism, ableism, politics, democracy, social justice).Experience in student and staff engagement in delivering leadership experiential learning in higher education.Experience in research and tracking programme impact.Experience in facilitation and critical engagement in student experiential learning.Experience with online learning management systems and online programme development.Experience in social media engagement to increase public participation.Excellent work ethic with ability to work independently and with multiple teams.Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.Excellent time management and ability to manage multiple projects; attention to detail.Willingness to work flexible hours (after-hours and weekends as required).Recommendation / Aanbeveling
