The President Hotel is entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation, and we are creating a new opportunity for a Sous Chef – Breakfast to join our culinary team.
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Sous Chef with experience in large-scale 4- or 5-star hotel kitchens to take ownership of all breakfast operations. Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will oversee preparation, cooking, and service for an average of 650 guests daily, ensuring a high-quality, consistent, and memorable breakfast experience. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage a team, deliver operational efficiency, and uphold the highest culinary standards.
Experience & Requirements
Minimum 2–3 years’ experience as a Sous Chef in large-scale 4- or 5-star hotel kitchens
Formal culinary qualification or diploma (advantageous)
Strong knowledge of breakfast cuisine, modern cooking techniques, and buffet operations
Proven ability in food cost management, stock control, and supplier liaison
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail and commitment to culinary excellence
Key Competencies : Culinary skills, team leadership, operational efficiency, guest-focused service, creativity, adaptability
Must hold a valid South African ID
Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee daily breakfast operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation
Prepare, cook, and plate breakfast dishes in line with recipes and luxury standards
Lead, mentor, and supervise the breakfast kitchen team, promoting teamwork and accountability
Assist with menu planning, seasonal updates, and innovation for breakfast service
Monitor stock levels, manage supplier orders, and control food costs efficiently
Ensure compliance with all hygiene, health, and food safety regulations
Maintain kitchen equipment, cleanliness, and organisation in line with hotel standards
Collaborate with F&B and service teams to ensure smooth guest service delivery
Handle guest requests and feedback with professionalism and efficiency
Support the training and development of junior chefs in the breakfast team
